Teledyne Continental Motors Piston Engines
AD/CON/51 Turbocharger Check Valve and Hose Clamps 11/87
Applicability: TELEDYNE CONTINENTAL MOTORS MODELS:
TSIO-360GB - all TSIO-360LB (new) - all through S/N 316128 TSIO-360LB (rebuilt) - all through S/N 247112 TSIO-360MB - all through S/N 317141.
Requirement: 1. Inspect the clamps retaining the turbocharger check valves and hoses for deterioration of the rubber cushioning, and replace if deteriorated.
2. If clamp rubber cushion was deteriorated inspect the check valve or hose where the clamp was fitted to ensure the clamp metal band did not cause chafing. If found chafed the valve(s) or hose must be replaced.
Compliance: Prior to the issue of the next maintenance release after 31 October 1987 and thereafter at each issue of a new maintenance release.
Note: Replacement of subject clamps having a cushion that is black in colour, with new clamps that incorporate a cushion that is yellow in colour is a requirement of TCM Service Bulletin No. M87-14, and constitutes terminating action.
Background: The manufacturer has found that premature deterioration of the clamp rubber cushions can allow the clamp metal band to chafe, and wear through the check valve(s) or hose and cause oil exhaustion. TCM Service Bulletin No. 87-14 introduces new clamps with oil and fuel resistant rubber cushioning.
