Wing Lower Root Joint Fittings P/Nos. 4W 271 and 4W 5013 - Inspection

Requirement: 1. Inspect Root Joint Fitting Part No. 4W271 or 4W5013 for the presence of chrome plating in the bore of the main attachment bolt hole in accordance with De Havilland TNS CT(104) No. 178 Issue 1 following the procedures set out in that document with the following exception.
2. Rectification and Re-Assembly.
(a) When the results of the test prove that chrome plating is present, the fitting must be changed forthwith.
(b) Replacement of the wing fitting should be carried out to the provisions of Repair Drawing RD 4W131 a copy of which may be obtained from the Service Department, De Havilland Aircraft Co. Ltd., Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England.
(c) In all cases (whether chrome is found or not) the main attachment bolt should be examined for serviceability, refitted and the joint resealed in accordance with the provisions of TNS CT(104) No. 168 Issue 4.
Compliance: Before 30 March 1973.
NOTE: Where both inspection for and rejection of chromed fittings has been carried out under the previous issue of this Directive, no further action is necessary.
