AD/DHC-8/49 Inspection of Wiring Harness 11/97
Applicability: de Havilland Inc. DHC-8 aircraft, series 100, 200 and 300, serial numbers 003 to 433 inclusive except 031, 408 and 413.
Requirement: Install deHavilland Modification 8/2624, Special Inspection For Chafing Of Cable Harness Behind Lavatory And Cut Away Of Lavatory Forward Panel, in accordance with deHavilland Service Bulletin 8-24-50 dated 25 April 1997.
Note: Transport Canada AD CF-97-14 refers.
Compliance: Unless previously accomplished by 9 July 1998.
This airworthiness directive becomes effective on 9 October 1997.
Background: Some operators have reported chafing of electrical wiring at the forward, top, outboard edge of the lavatory side wall resulting in severe local overheat and smoke in the cockpit and cabin. The deHavilland modification 8/2624 provides the means for assessing the condition of the affected wires, repair any damage and reduce the risk of future damage to the wiring harness in the area behind the lavatory and cut away of the lavatory forward panel.
