DM
Applicability: Model 201, 202, 301, 311, 314 and 315 series aeroplanes with Serial Numbers 100
through 552 inclusive.
Requirement: 1. Inspect the junction of wire bundle Part Number (P/N) 3021-14F20-2 and fuel line P/N 3036484 for damage, as described in Bombardier Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) A8-73-23 dated 3 November 2000.
2. If any damage is found during the Requirement 1 inspection repair the damage in accordance with ASB A8-73-23.
3. Incorporate Modification 8Q101164 in accordance with ASB A8-73-23.
Incorporation of Modification 8Q101164 is terminating action for the Requirement 1 repetitive inspections.
Note: Transport Canada AD CF-2000-33 refers.
Compliance: For Requirement 1 - Within 50 hours time in service (TIS) or 10 days from the effective date of this Directive, whichever occurs first, and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 500 hours TIS or three months, whichever occurs first, until Modification 8Q101164 is incorporated.
For Requirement 2 - Before further flight.
For Requirement 3 - Within 1000 hours time TIS or six months from the effective date of this Directive, whichever occurs first.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 23 November 2000.
Background: Bombardier has advised that a DHC-8 aeroplane was found to have a pinhole in high pressure fuel line P/N 3036484 caused by electrical arcing from an adjoining wire bundle P/N 3021-14F20-2. The arcing occurred approximately 100 mm (4 inches) from the fuel-cooled oil cooler.

The fuel and wire bundle are separated by two cushion clamps, which can rotate, allowing the wire bundle to chafe against the fuel line.
This Directive requires initial and repetitive inspection of the fuel line and wire harness, together with incorporation of a modification which provides terminating action for
the inspections.
