COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY
SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Eurocopter EC 135 Series Helicopters
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/EC 135/1 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
AD/EC 135/1
Amdt 1
Main Rotor Hub-Shaft 13/2001
Applicability: All Model EC 135 helicopters equipped with main rotor hub-shaft assembly listed in the Requirement document.
Requirement: Inspect in accordance with Eurocopter Deutschland Alert Service Bulletin EC 135- 62A-004 Revision 3.
Note: LBA AD 1999-185/4 refers.
Compliance: Before further flight after 24 December 1999 for the initial visual inspection, unless already accomplished. Thereafter as specified in the Requirement document.
The compliance times remain unchanged for this issue. This amendment becomes effective on 27 December 2001.
Background: Following a recent test run, cracks were detected in the main rotor hub-shaft of an affected helicopter. Initial and repeat inspections are introduced that are intended to prevent fracture of the main rotor hub-shaft, which could result in loss of control of the helicopter.
Amendment 1 is issued in response to a revision of the related LBA AD which introduces the latest revision of the Requirement document. This revision corrects the dimension defining the inspection area and limits the components affected.
The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 24 December 1999.
David Alan Villiers
Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 8 November 2001
The above AD is notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 5 December 2001.
