Aileron Spar 3/95
Applicability: All model 110 Bandeirante series aeroplanes. Requirement: 1. Remove both ailerons from the aircraft. 2. Remove the push-rod/centre hinge bracket from each aileron.
3. After first cleaning the area thoroughly, visually inspect the front face of the aileron spar for cracks, paying particular attention to the area near the push- rod/centre hinge bracket attachment holes and the anchor nut rivets.
4. Remove the lower surface access panel to the rear of the aileron push-rod/centre hinge bracket. After first cleaning the area thoroughly, visually inspect the rear face of the spar, including the nested angles, again paying particular attention to the area near the bracket attachment holes and the anchor nut rivets.
Compliance: Remove, clean and inspect the critical areas before 2000 hours aileron time in service, or before 300 hours aileron time in service since the most recent inspection in accordance with this AD, or before 5 hours aileron time in service after 29 January 1993, whichever occurs last.
Repeat the inspections at intervals not to exceed 300 hours aileron time in service.
After installation of an approved repair the inspections may be suspended for up to 2000 hours aileron time in service. Modification in accordance with Embraer Service Bulletin 110-27-0092 cancels the requirements of this AD.
This Directive is effective 2 March 1995.
Background: Reports have been received of seventeen aileron spars cracked out of twenty inspected. A cracked spar may reduce the stiffness of the aileron, increasing the likelihood of flutter. Amendment 1 deletes a superfluous note, corrects an error whereby the inboard hinge, rather than the centre hinge was specified and provides terminating action. The Compliance requirement of the original AD is unchanged by this Amendment.
