AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Fokker F100 (F28 Mk 100) Series Aeroplanes

AD/F100/56 Pedestal Side Cover Attachment 11/2002

Applicability: Model F28 Mk 0100 and Mk 0070 aircraft, all serial numbers.

Requirement: Action in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Fokker Service Bulletin F100-25-092, dated 4 February 2002.

Note: Netherlands CAA AD 2002-111 refers.

Compliance: Within 12 calendar months after 31 October 2002, unless already accomplished.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 31 October 2002.

Background: A Fokker 100 operator reported an incident in which a loose pedestal side cover allowed the pilot's foot to become jammed between the pedestal side cover and the rudder pedal, during alignment of the aircraft with the runway during approach. Subsequent investigation revealed that at least one such incident had occurred before. A review of aircraft maintenance documentation revealed that the aircraft maintenance manual does not contain an instruction to install the pedestal side cover in a certain attachment bracket; that may not be installed on some aircraft.
