COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY
SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Background: There have been many MLG torque link failures in the applicable aircraft.
Maintenance deficiencies caused reduced natural stability of the MLG lateral and torsional mode during landing causing failure. In-service experience also found that operators, despite improved maintenance procedures may not succeed in effectively eliminating torque link failures. Since a potentially unsafe condition still exists or may develop, this Directive requires installation of dampers on all applicable aircraft, and revised maintenance until that is accomplished.
Amendment 1 is raised to mandate replacement of the -1 and -3 dampers with modified -5 dampers.
The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 5 December 1996.

Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 5 May 2000
