COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 106 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Franklin Piston Engines
AD/FK-P/8 Slide Vane Fuel Pump 10/2003 TX
Applicability: All Franklin 6A-350 and 4A-235 series engines manufactured by the Franklin Engine Co., Syracuse, NY, USA fitted with a PLL-7 slide vane pump.
Note 1: This pump may have been fitted as a replacement to the diaphragm pump as detailed in AD/FK-P/6 Amdt 1.
Requirement: Check for correct mating of the fuel pump drive gears and carry out any subsequent rectification in accordance with WSK PZL Service Bulletin PZL-F/75/2003.
Note 2: Republic of Poland General Inspectorate of Civil Aviation Airworthiness Directive Nr SP-0048-2003-B refers.
Compliance: Before further flight.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 22 August 2003.
Background: The fuel pump drive gear fitted to Franklin engines manufactured in the USA may have a different diametral pitch to the PLL-7 fuel pump gear. Different diametral pitch of the fuel pump drive gears can lead to abnormal wear and premature failure of the engine driven fuel pump.
