AD/IAI-W/12 Cockpit Voice Recorder Area Microphone Location 6/88
Applicability: All models where the unit containing the cockpit voice recorder area microphone is installed in the centre console such that the microphone is located towards the edge of the console.
Requirement: Reposition the unit containing the cockpit voice recorder area microphone so that the microphone is located towards the centre of the centre console.
Note: This may be achieved by rotating the unit through 180 degrees.
Compliance: Before the issue of a new Maintenance Release after 30 June 1988 or by 14 July 1988, whichever occurs first.
Background: In many installations, the area microphone is located very close to the pilot's seat. This allows the area microphone to be blanketed by seat covers or loose items of clothing, severely reducing the area microphone's capability to record cockpit sounds.
