The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
AD/JETSTREAM/86 Rudder Quadrant Support Structure 5/2000
Applicability: All Series 200 and Jetstream 3100 and 3200 Series aircraft excluding Constructors numbers 936 and 940.
Requirement: Inspect in accordance with BAe Mandatory Service Bulletin (SB) 53-JA-990842 or 53-JA-990842 Revision 1.
On aircraft where this inspection and repair has been carried out in accordance with SB 53-JA-990842, a check is required to ensure correct rivets have been used.
Note: UK CAA AD 006-12-99 refers.
Compliance: Before 31 December 2000, unless already accomplished.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 18 May 2000.
Background: Occurrences of damage to the rudder quadrant support structure have been reported. The damage relates to cracking of the support structure upper edge member radii and bottom diaphragm radii adjacent to the rudder artificial feel assembly attachment.
The damage is caused by incorrectly installed profiled D-washers which are designed to reinforce the radii when they are installed correctly.
