AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
AD/JETSTREAM/88 Steering Actuator Piston Rod 8/2000
Applicability: All British Aerospace Regional Aircraft HP137 Mk 1 Jetstream Series 200, 3100 and 3200 series aircraft.
Requirement: Replace the nose landing gear steering actuator in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions in British Aerospace Service Bulletin 32-JA000342 dated May 5/2000.
Note: UK CAA AD 004-05-2000 refers.
Compliance: Within 3000 landings after the effective date of this Directive but no later than 30 October 2001.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 10 August 2000.
Background: Failures have been reported at the undercut on the base of the eye end thread of the nose landing gear steering jack. This Directive mandates incorporation of a modified steering jack piston that is more tolerant to bending loads.
Eugene Paul Holzapfel Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 23 June 2000
