AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
British Aerospace BAe 3100 (Jetstream) Series Aeroplanes
AD/JETSTREAM/91 Main Landing Gear Radius Rods 10/2001
DM
Applicability: All Jetstream 3100 and 3200 Series aircraft with radius rods part numbers 1847/A through /L (left) and 1862/A through /L (right) installed.
Requirement: Action in accordance with BAE Systems Alert Service Bulletin ASB 32-A-JA010740 Revision 2.
Note: For aircraft on which the Requirement document at original issue has already been accomplished, Revision 2 may require further work to mark affected radius rods with a date for their removal from service.
Compliance: Before 22 September 2001, unless already accomplished.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 22 August 2001.
Background: Due to an error in the manufacturing process the material of some radius rod cylinders, part number 184811, may not have received the correct heat treatment. This condition can result in failure of the radius rod and collapse of the landing gear during an abnormal event, such as a heavy landing.
David Alan Villiers
Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 16 August 2001
The above AD is notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 22 August 2001.
