AD/JT8D-200/2 Number 4 and 5 Bearing Compartment Oil Fires 10/92
Applicability: All JT8D-200 series engines not incorporating PWA SB 5514 and SB 5945. Requirement: Action in accordance with Pratt and Whitney Service Bulletin No. 5944 Revision 2. Compliance: Effective 17 September 1992. Background: This Directive has been issued to require a periodic inspection program to monitor number 4 and 5 bearing compartment oil temperature. The requirement follows advice of 28 high pressure turbine shaft fracture events, 5 of which resulted in uncontained turbine failures.
