COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES Consolidated Aeronautics, Colonial and LA-4 Series Aeroplanes AD/LA-4/19 Anchor Light and Bilge Pump Wiring - Modification 12/79 Applicability: All Colonial C-1 and C-2, Lake LA-4, Lake LA-4P and Lake LA-4-200 with an Anchor light and/or Bilge Pump installed. Requirement: Install a 5 amp inline fuse within 10 cm of the battery relay, in the power lines to the anchor light and bilge pump. FAA AD 79-21-09 refers. Compliance: Within 100 hours time in service after 31 January 1980. Background: There have been reports from overseas of a burning of the electrical power cable for the bilge pump caused by an electrical short between the battery relay and the bilge pump switch. The fuse for the bilge pump circuit was located at the switch leaving a substantial length of cable between the battery relay and the fuse unprotected. The same type of circuit is used for the anchor light. Installation of a fuse at the battery relay should overcome this problem.
