COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 106 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section. Turbomeca Turbine Engines - Makila Series AD/MAKILA/6 Exhaust Pipe Replacement 7/2002 Applicability: Makila 1A, 1A1 and 1A2 engines incorporating a TU200A modified exhaust pipe. Requirement: Replace the exhaust pipe ejector attachment tabs in accordance with Turbomeca Alert Service Bulletin A298 72 0148 Update Number 1. Compliance with the requireme nts of this Directive constitutes a terminating action for the requirements of AD/MAKILA/5. Note: DGAC Airworthiness Directive 2002-124(A) refers. Compliance: Effective 11 July 2002; at next removal of the engine from the helicopter, but no later than 30 June 2003. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 11 July 2002. Background: This directive has been issued to address reports of cracks being found in exhaust pipe ejector attachment tabs. Failure of the attachment tabs could result in the ejector becoming detached and contacting the main rotor or tail rotor. AD/MAKILA/5 is in issue to require an inspection of the tabs pending compliance with this Directive.
