AD/OXY/12 PELS Model 4566M37B Crewmember
Protective Breathing Equipment
Applicability: Essex PB&R Corporation (formerly E.I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company Incorporated) PELS® model 4566M37B crewmember Protective Breathing
11/93
Equipment (PBE) units, serial numbers as listed in Essex PB&R Corporation Service Bulletin 001 Revision 1 dated 3 October 1991, manufactured between 29 March 1989 and 9 May 1989. The PBE units may be installed on but not limited to transport category aircraft manufactured by Boeing, McDonnell Douglas, Airbus and Lockheed.
Requirement: Remove from service, in accordance with Essex PB&R Corporation Service Bulletin 001 Revision 1 dated 3 October 1991.
Note: FAA AD 93-14-12 Amendment 39-8636 refers.
Compliance: Prior to 31 December 1994.
Background: The manufacturer has advised the FAA that certain PBE units contain a potentially defective adhesive bond between the hood shell and neck seal which could compromise user protection.
Compliance with this Directive alleviates the possibility of crewmembers being unable to combat an aircraft fire due to leakage of the PBE neck seal.
