3/94
Applicability: Puritan Bennett Aero Systems Crewmember Protective Breathing Equipment (PBE), part numbers 119003 and 119003-01. These equipments are known to be installed on, but not limited to, the following aircraft series:
Aerospatiale ATR42 and ATR72 Airbus Industrie A300, A310 and A320 Boeing 727, 737, 747, 757 and 767

Lockheed L1011

Requirement: 1. Inspect the PBE units in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Puritan Bennett Aero Systems Service Bulletin 119003-35-1 dated 15 February 1993 to confirm that a yellow label is attached to the red rip tag.
2. Remove from service units without the yellow label.
Note: FAA AD 93-24-16 Amdt 39-8765 refers.
Compliance: 1. Prior to 1 March 1996.
2. Immediately following the inspection.
Background: Some PBE units have been found to have deteriorated neck seals.
This condition could reduce the protection afforded the crewmember if the PBE unit was used while locating and/or extinguishing an inflight fire.
Compliance with this Directive provides a method of early detection of PBE units with deteriorated neck seals and decreases the likelihood of crewmembers being affected by smoke.
