AD/OXY/17 Smoke Hood Inspection 2/98
Applicability: AIR LIQUIDE Smoke hood type 15-40 F installed on any type of aircraft with the following lot numbers and are not further identified with a "R1" on the label:
8141 8283 8359 8389 8413 8473 8474 8475 8477 8524 8569 8570 8656 8657 8682 8744 8801 8840 8841 8842 9003 9007 9254
Requirement: 1. Inspect and remove from service all type 15-40 F smoke hoods installed on aircraft and identified by the lot numbers above.
2. Smoke hoods identified above are not to be fitted to any aircraft.
Note: DGAC AD 97-088(AB)R1 refers.
Compliance: 1. Unless previously accomplished, no later than 16 July 1998.
2. As of the effective date of this airworthiness directive.
This airworthiness directive becomes effective on 29 January 1998.
Background: The DGAC has been informed that some visors on the smoke hoods, identified by the lot numbers detailed become opaque (white) within a few minutes following the opening of the vacuum package. In order to eliminate the potential risk presented by these hoods, this airworthiness directive requires all smoke hoods identified to be removed from service.
