AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Fire Protection Equipment AD/FPE/17 Meggitt Safety Systems 5/2006 Model 602 Smoke Detectors
Applicability: Meggitt Safety Systems Model 602 smoke detectors approved under United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Standard Order (TSO) TSO-C1c and having any part number (P/N) 8930-( ) identified as a "Current Part Number" in Meggitt Service Information Letter (SIL) 8930-26-01, Revision C, dated 25 May 2005, as installed on various transport category aeroplanes, including but not limited to, the aeroplane models listed below. Aerospatiale ATR42-200, -300, -320 and -500 ATR72-101, -201, -102, -202, -211, -212 and -212A Boeing 727, 727C, 727-100, 727-100C, 727-200 and 727-200F series 737-100, -200, -200C, -300, -400, -500, -600, -700, -700C, -800 and -900 series McDonnell Douglas DC-10-10 and DC-10-10F; DC-10-15; DC-10-30 and DC-10-30F (KC-10A and KDC-10); together with DC-10-40 and DC-10-40F MD-10-10F and MD-10-30F MD-11 and MD-11F 717-200 series Requirement: 1. If not previously accomplished, replace the affected smoke detector with a modified smoke detector, in accordance with Meggitt SIL 8930-26-01, Revision C. Replacement of a smoke detector before the effective date of this Directive is also acceptable if accomplished in accordance with either the original issue of Meggitt SIL 8930-26-01, dated 8 November 2004; Revision A, dated 8 November 2004 or Revision B, dated 19 January 2005. 2. Meggitt Model 602 smoke detector having any P/N 8930-( ) identified as a "Current Part Number" in Meggitt SIL 8930-26-01, Revision C, may not be installed on any aeroplane as either an initial installation or as a replacement spare.
