AD/CONVAIR/2 - Elevator and Rudder Hinge Pins and Bushings (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Kelowna Flightcraft (General Dynamics/Convair) Series Aeroplanes AD/CONVAIR/2 Elevator and Rudder Hinge Pins and Bushings 5/2006

Applicability: All model 340, 440, and all such model aircraft converted to turbopropeller power. Requirement: 1. Remove the elevators and rudder in accordance with Parts 2.A.1. and 2.B.1., respectively, of the Accomplishment Instructions of General Dynamics, Convair Division, Alert Service Bulletin 640 (340D) A55-7. Perform a detailed visual inspection of the elevator and rudder hinge pins and bushings to detect wear in accordance with the procedures described in Part 2.B. of the Accomplishment Instructions of Service Bulletin 640 (340D) 55-5; and perform a detailed visual inspection of the elevator and rudder bearing plate assemblies to detect cracks and of the elevator and rudder bearings to detect chattering, looseness, dryness, or binding in accordance with Parts 2.A. and 2.B. of the Accomplishment Instructions of Alert Service Bulletin 640 (340D) A55-7.

If any cracked bearing plate assembly, worn pin or bushing, or defective bearing is found during any inspection, before further flight, replace with serviceable part(s) in accordance with the applicable Service Bulletin.
