0. legislative provisions 0.1. NAME OF STANDARD 0.1.1. This Standard is the Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule 44/01 – Specific Purpose Vehicle Requirements) 2006. 0.1.2. This Standard may also be cited as Australian Design Rule 44/01 — Specific Purpose Vehicle Requirements. 0.2. COMMENCEMENT 0.2.1. This Standard commences on the day after it is registered. 0.3. REPEAL 0.3.1. This Standard repeals each vehicle standard with the name Australian Design Rule 44/01 — Specific Purpose Vehicle Requirements that is: (a) made under section 7 of the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989; and
(b) in force at the commencement of this Standard.
0.3.2. This Standard also repeals each instrument made under section 7 of the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 that creates a vehicle standard with the name Australian Design Rule 44/01 — Specific Purpose Vehicle Requirements, if there are no other vehicle standards created by that instrument, or amendments to vehicle standards made by that instrument, that are still in force at the commencement of this Standard. 1. Function And SCOPE 1. The function of this Australian Design Rule is to specify requirements for the construction of the following vehicles designed for a specific purpose: 'Taxis'; 'Tow Trucks'; 'Pole-type Trailers'; LPG-fuelled Vehicles; Emergency Vehicles; and Motorhomes/'Caravans'. 2. The requirements of ADR 44 are related to specific requirements of the particular vehicles. A "specific purpose vehicle" will belong to one or more of the vehicle categories. 2. APPLICABILITY AND IMPLEMENTATION 1. This ADR applies to the design and construction of vehicles as set out in the table below. 2. Vehicles certified to the requirements of any of the 'Acceptable Prior Rules" as shown below in the Applicability Table for a particular category shall be deemed to comply with this rule. 3. Prior to the relevant date of effect, vehicles certified to ADR 44101 must also be certified to: ADR 621... 'Mechanical Connections between Vehicles'; in the case of TC and TD vehicles to ADR 631... 'Trailers Designed for use in Road Trains', if appropriate; and in the case of NC vehicles to ADR 641... "Heavy Goods Vehicles Designed for use in Road Traffic & B-Doubles", if appropriate.
