AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Eurocopter SA 315 (Lama) Series Helicopters
AD/SA 315/16 Freewheel Lubrication System 6/2007
Applicability: Eurocopter SA 315 (LAMA) helicopters fitted with:
MGB 319A.62.00.000
FREEWHEEL UNIT 3160S.60.10.000
CLUTCH UNIT 3160S.63.20.000
All dash numbers.
Requirement: 1. Incorporate the modifications detailed in Eurocopter Service Bulletin (SB) LAMA No. 65.06 Issue 2.
2. Carry out an inspection of the freewheel lubrication system in accordance with Eurocopter SB No. 05.14, original issue or later approved revisions.
Note: DGAC AD 79-53-18(B) dated 28 February 1979 refers.
Compliance: 1. Within 30 days after the effective date of this AD unless previously accomplished.
2. After the first flight following installation of a MGB after the effective date of this AD and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 100 flight hours.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 7 June 2007.
Background: Several cases of loss of freewheel units have been caused by faulty lubrication on units fitted with a self lubricating system. This system is to be removed and more general lubrication system installed. In addition a periodic inspection program to check the lubrication system has been mandated.
