AD/ATR 42/6 - Vertical Stabiliser Fin Tip (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: Model ATR 42-500 aircraft, with modification No. 4440 incorporated, and on which modification No. 5426 or Service Bulletin ATR42-55-0012 has not been incorporated; except aircraft serial numbers 618 through 623. Requirement: Action in accordance with the requirements of EASA AD 2006-0303.

Note: ATR Service Bulletin ATR42-55-0011 original issue, or later EASA approved revision, refers. Compliance: As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of 2 August 2007. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 2 August 2007. Background: A report was received of rudder operation difficulties on an ATR 42-500 aircraft. An investigation determined that the upper closing rib could be subject to fatigue cracks induced by installation stress. This Directive changes the interval of the current repetitive inspection requirement, and requires incorporation of a modification which terminates the repetitive inspection requirement.
