AD/B747/368 - Station 1241 Bulkhead Fittings (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Boeing 747 Series Aeroplanes AD/B747/368 Station 1241 Bulkhead Fittings 2/2008 DM

Applicability: Boeing Model 747-100, -200, 747SR, 747SP and 747-300 aircraft. Requirement: Perform initial and repeat inspections of the STA 1241 bulkhead fittings just above the canted pressure deck and other actions in accordance with the accomplishment instructions of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 747-53A2658, dated February 22, 2007 or later revision approved by the FAA as an Alternative Method of Compliance (AMOC).

Note: FAA AD 2007-25-17 Amdt 39-15299 refers. Compliance: As specified in Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 747-53A2658. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 14 January 2008. Background: This Airworthiness Directive results from a report that an operator found a 1.65-inch crack on the station (STA) 1241 bulkhead fitting on the left side of a 747-200F aircraft that had accumulated 17,332 total flight cycles. This AD is issued to detect and correct cracking in the STA 1241 bulkhead fittings, which could result in reduced structural integrity of the aircraft.
