AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Boeing 747 Series Aeroplanes
AD/B747/382 Section 41 Fuselage Skins 11/2008 DM
Applicability: Boeing Model 747-100, 747-100B, 747-100B SUD, 747-200B, 747-200C, 747-200F, 747-300, 747-400, 747-400D, 747-400F, 747SR, and 747SP series airplanes, certificated in any category.
Requirement: Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 2008-17-17
Amdt 39-15655.

Compliance: As specified in the requirement document.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 2 October 2008.
Background: The FAA received reports of cracking found at fastener locations in the fuselage skins at section 41. This directive is issued to detect and correct fuselage skin cracks at fastener locations along the skin-to stringer attachments, which could join together and consequently result in rapid decompression of the cabin.
