Applicability: PA-46 models and serial numbers as follows: Model Serial Numbers PA-46-350P 4622001 through 4622200 and 4636001 through 4636445 PA-46R-350T 4692001 through 4692054 PA-46-500TP 4697001 through 4697365 Requirement: Install Stall Warning Heat Control Modification Kit, Piper part number 88452-002 as specified in Piper Mandatory Service Bulletin (MSB) 1192, dated 15 September 2008, following Drawing 88452, dated 19 June 2008. Later revisions of the above MSB and drawing, approved by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Alternate Method of Compliance (AMOC) to FAA AD 2008-26-011 are considered acceptable for compliance with the equivalent Requirements of this Directive. Note: FAA AD 2008-26-11 Amdt 39-15777 refers. Compliance: Within the next 100 hours time in service after the effective date of this Directive. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 12 March 2009. Background: The FAA has advised that ice forming on the stall vane heater during flights into icing conditions with the landing gear down may result in failure of the stall warning system and the pilot being unaware of an approaching stall situation. This Directive requires the installation of a stall warning heat control modification kit to prevent ice from forming on the stall vane.
