The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

AD/A330/92 Amdt 1 Passenger Compartment Electrical Harness 5/2009
Applicability: A330 model aircraft listed in Table 1, all manufacturer serial numbers (MSN), except those on which Airbus modification 48825 has been embodied during production.
Table 1
A330-201 A330-223 A330-302 A330-322 A330-342
A330-202 A330-243 A330-303 A330-323 A330-343
A330-203 A330-301 A330-321 A330-341
Requirement: 1. Modify the affected passenger compartment electrical harnesses in accordance with the instructions of Airbus Service Bulletin (SB) A330-92-3066,
Revision 01, dated 1 August 2008.
2. For aircraft that have already been modified, prior to the effective date of the original issue of this Directive (23 October 2008), in accordance with the instructions of Airbus SB A330-92-3066, at original issue dated 27 November 2007, accomplish the additional work in accordance with the instructions of Airbus SB A330-92-3066, Revision 01.
Later revisions of Airbus SB A330-92-3066, Revision 01, approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), are acceptable for compliance with this Directive.
Note: EASA AD 2008-0161R1 refers.
Compliance: For Requirement 1 - Before 22 August 2010.
For Requirement 1 - Before 8 September 2010.
This Amendment becomes effective on 7 May 2009.
Background: Several reports have been received from A330 and A340 operators concerning chafing of the electrical harness behind the lavatory, located at L53, resulting in a number of short-circuits. This harness contains cables for lighting, plugs, loudspeakers and oxygen controls and indications.
This condition, if not corrected, could lead to the short circuit of wires dedicated to oxygen, which, in case of emergency, could result in a large number of passenger oxygen masks (up to 32% of all seats) not being supplied with oxygen, possibly causing personal injuries.
This Amendment extends the compliance time to 24 months after the effective date of corresponding EASA Directives.
The original issue of this Directive became effective on 23 October 2008.
