AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Airbus Industrie A330 Series Aeroplanes AD/A330/104 PW4000 Engine - Lower Aft 9/2009 Pylon Fairing Firewall
Applicability: Model A330-223, -321, -322 and -323 aircraft, all serial numbers, except aircraft with AIRBUS modification 53623 incorporated in production or AIRBUS Service Bulletin (SB) A330-54-3022 incorporated in service. Requirement: Action in accordance with the requirements of DGAC AD F-2004-028 R2.
Note 1: AIRBUS Service Bulletins A330-54-3021 initial issue and A330-54-3022 initial issue, or later DGAC/EASA approved revisions, refer. Compliance: Inspect at intervals not to exceed 1,000 flight hours; and if cracking is detected accomplish the actions specified in the Requirement document.
Note 2: The repetitive inspections are terminated by incorporating SB A330-54-3022. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 27 August 2009. Background: Reports were received of cracks on the lower aft pylon fairing (LAPF) firewall of an A330 aircraft fitted with PW4000 series engines. This condition, if left uncorrected, would compromise the design of the firewall.
