AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/DHC-1/21 Amdt 1 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
De Havilland DHC-1 (Chipmunk) Series Aeroplanes AD/DHC-1/21 Amdt 2 Wing to Fuselage Attachment Links 13/2011
Applicability: English production (C1) all models and Portuguese (T Mk 20) production models. Requirement: Action in accordance with British Aerospace T.N.S. No. 161, Issue 3, dated 1 August 1985. Compliance: Within 100 hours time in service after the effective date of this AD or at the next scheduled inspection for Maintenance Release issued after the effective date of this AD, whichever is the later, and at any time the wing attachment links are removed. This Amendment becomes effective on 21 June 2011. Background: Cases have been reported where the wing to fuselage attachment links have been fitted out of alignment resulting in chafing of the spar and/or tie bar, by the links.
Amendment 1 of this AD revised the requirements to reflect Issue 3 of the Requirement Document which revised the shimming procedure.
This amendment is issued to include the Portuguese manufactured Chipmunk (T Mk 20) in the applicability of the AD. A recent review indicates that TNS 161 may be applicable to T Mk 20 Chipmunks, depending on the wing attach fitting part number fitted to the aircraft. This part number will need to be determined by a physical inspection or aircraft records.
