AD/LYC/105 Amdt 2 - Oil Filter Converter Plate Gasket (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/LYC/105 Amdt 1 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Lycoming Piston Engines AD/LYC/105 Amdt 2 Oil Filter Converter Plate Gasket 3/2013

Applicability: Lycoming piston engines, as detailed by model in Textron Lycoming Mandatory Service Bulletin (MSB) No. 543A, which were:

1. Released new, rebuilt or overhauled by Textron Lycoming in the period 1 April 1999 to 4 October 2000, or

2. Has had an oil filter converter plate P/N LW-13904 and/or the oil filter converter plate gasket P/N LW-13388 gasket installed either at engine overhaul or in service since 1 April 1999.

Note 1: This Directive does not apply to engines fitted with a canister style oil filter. Requirement: 1. Inspect the engine for both:

(a) evidence of an oil leak from the oil filter converter plate gasket, or

(b) evidence of the oil filter converter plate gasket extruding beyond the perimeter of the plate.

2. Rectify any evidence of an oil leak or if the gasket is damaged, displaced, deteriorated or extruding from the oil filter converter plate by replacing the oil filter converter plate gasket in accordance with Textron Lycoming MSB 543A or Part II of Supplement 1 to Textron Lycoming MSB 543A.
