I, Michael Ronaldson, Minister for Veterans' Affairs, hereby, under subsection 118(2) of the Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986:

(a) revoke the Veterans' Entitlements (Veterans' Children Education Scheme - Guidance and Counselling Services) Determination 2000 (Instrument No. 29/2000); and

(b) determine that a person in a class of persons in the Schedule is a person in respect of whom the Repatriation Commission may provide guidance and counselling services under the Veterans' Children Education Scheme.

Name of Instrument

This instrument is the Veterans' Entitlements (Veterans' Children Education Scheme - Guidance and Counselling Services) Determination 2000.

Commencement

This instrument commences on the day after registration.

Definitions

58B Defence Determination means a determination made under section 58B of the Defence Act 1903.

Black Hawk Helicopter Accident means the accident on 12 June 1996, in Australia, involving Black Hawk helicopters carrying members of the Defence Force.

dependent child, in relation to a member of the Defence Force, means a child of the member who is wholly or partly dependent on the member for economic support and is either:

(a) under 16; or (b) 16 or more but under 25, being a child who: (i) is in full-time education at a school, college, university or other educational institution; and (ii) is not ordinarily in employment or working on his or her own account.

ex gratia decision, means the decision of the Federal Government of Australia on 10 June 1997 to make lump sum payments in respect of members of the Defence Force:
