AD/RES/20 Amdt 1 - Eon Corporation E6000 Buckle Assemblies (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE On the commencement date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below repeals Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/RES/20 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001 (1) of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998 (CASR). The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct an unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Restraint Equipment AD/RES/20 Amdt 1 Eon Corporation E6000 Buckle Assemblies 8/2017

Applicability: All seat belts. Requirement: 1. Inspect all seat belts to determine if they are marked as having been manufactured by the EON Corporation under "TSO–C22". This includes all seat belts supplied under an airframe manufacturer's part number. 2. If the seat belt is marked as an EON Corporation seat belt manufactured under "TSO–C22", determine if an E6000 buckle is fitted. If an E6000 buckle is fitted, remove the seat belt assembly and replace with another item approved in accordance with regulation 21.305 of CASR. 3. The seat belts removed in compliance with this AD are to be destroyed or have the "TSO–C22" markings removed or totally obliterated. 4. No E6000 buckle may be installed as a spare part after the effective date. Note 1: An E6000 buckle assembly has a front cover plate which is pivoted at one end and is pulled at the other end through an arc to release the latch from the buckle. The E6000 buckle assemblies can be identified by the type of catch they use. Figure 1 shows the configuration of the catch and how it is located within the buckle assembly. Note 2: FAA AD 87-04-19 refers. Compliance: Prior to the issue of a Certificate of Airworthiness after 4 June 1987. Inspection in accordance with AD/RES/20 satisfies the requirements of this AD. This AD commences on 24 April 2017. Background: This AD is prompted by reports of a buckle assembly that pulled apart under load and of other assemblies that could be pulled apart by manipulating the latch in the buckle. This could result in lack of restraint during either flight or crash loads. This amendment corrects reference to a superseded regulation.
