1. LEGISLATIVE PROVISIONS 1. Name of Standard 1. This Standard is the Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule 33/01 – Brake Systems for Motorcycles and Mopeds) 2017. 2. This Standard may also be cited as Australian Design Rule 33/01 – Brake Systems for Motorcycles and Mopeds. 2. Commencement 1. This Standard commences on the day after it is registered. 2. FUNCTION 2.1 The function of this standard is to ensure safe braking under normal and emergency conditions for motorcycles and mopeds. 3. APPLICABILITY 3.1. This vehicle standard applies to vehicles as set out in clause 3.4 Applicability Table, from the dates set out in clauses 3.1.1 to 3.1.2. 3.1.1. 1 November 2019 for all new model vehicles. 3.1.2. 1 November 2021 for all vehicles. 3.2. For the purposes of clause 3.1.1, a 'new model' is a vehicle model first produced with a 'date of manufacture' on or after the agreed date in each clause respectively. 3.3. All LEP and LEG category vehicles fitted with separate controls for front and rear service brakes are required to comply with this standard. Other LEP vehicles must comply with ADR 31/... and other LEG vehicles must comply with ADR 35/...
