AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE On the commencement date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below repeals Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/REC/3 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001 (1) of CASR and subsection 33 (3) of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct an unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Cockpit Voice and Flight Data Recording Systems AD/REC/3 Amdt 1 Sundstrand Cockpit Voice 18/2021 Recorders - Modification
Applicability: Sundstrand Data Control Cockpit Voice Recorder Models AV-557, AV-557A, AV‑557B and AV-557C. Requirement: Modify the applicable Sundstrand Data Control Cockpit Voice Recorder Models in accordance with the technical requirements of: 1. Sundstrand Data Control Service Bulletin (SB) No. 012-0296-109, as in force from time to time, for part numbers 980-6005-054 to -058 inclusive and 980‑6005-074 to -078 inclusive, and 2. Sundstrand Data Control SB No. 012-0129-113, as in force from time to time, for part numbers 980-6005-010 to -013 inclusive, 980- 6005-020 to -023 inclusive, 980-6005-050 to -053 inclusive and 680-6005-060 to -063 inclusive. Note 1: The words "as in force from time to time" require compliance with the most recent version of the referenced document. Note 2: FAA Airworthiness Directive 83-16-01 Amendment 39-4075 is the basis of this AD. Compliance: Within 60 days after the commencement date of this AD, unless previously accomplished in accordance with a previous issue of this AD. Note 3: This Directive was originally issued as AD/RAD/42. Prior compliance with AD/RAD/42 is considered compliance with this Directive. Commencement: This AD commences on 10 September 2021. Background: Under conditions of vibration, connectors with split-ring sockets may cause CVRs to operate intermittently, give erroneous self test indications and contribute to sensor or tape-off-reel problems. Replacements are full ring sockets.
