1 Name This instrument is the Industry Research and Development (Australia-United States Partnership in Landsat Next Program) Instrument 2024.
2 Commencement (1) Each provision of this instrument specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

3 Authority This instrument is made under section 33 of the Industry Research and Development Act 1986.
4 Definitions In this instrument: Act means the Industry Research and Development Act 1986. program: see subsection 5(1).
5 Prescribed program (1) For the purposes of subsection 33(1) of the Act, the Australia‑United States Partnership in Landsat Next Program (the program) is prescribed. (2) The program provides funding to establish an Australia-United States partnership in the Landsat Next satellite mission, including by providing funding for the following: (a) Australian data hub infrastructure, including Australian data processing and distribution systems; (b) the facilitation of the use of data obtained from the Landsat arrangements, including data product and tool creation, international collaboration, advocacy, education and outreach; (c) the use of advanced technologies to analyse current and future Landsat data; (d) the facilitation of access for countries in the Indo-Pacific region to the data; (e) establishing, operating and maintaining a fit-for-purpose ground network, including satellite ground stations and associated infrastructure. (3) The purpose of the program is to enable Australia to become a core partner in the Landsat Next satellite mission's ground network, to secure open access to past and future Landsat data and to establish, operate and maintain an upgraded Australian‑owned and operated ground station in the Northern Territory.
