INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS COMMISSION OF NEW SOUTH WALES
CORAM: MACDONALD C
6 March 2007
Matter No IRC 229 of 2007
Crown Employees (Public Service Training Wage) Award 2005
Application by Public Service Association and Professional Officers Association Amalgamated Union of New South Wales for approval of an application to vary an Award
DECISION
[2007] NSWIRComm 1017
1 This decision is issued further to the extempore approval granted for the Crown Employees (Public Service Training Wage)Award 2005 ("the Award").
2 On 26 February 2007, the Public Service Association And Professional Officers Association Amalgamated Union of New South Wales ("the Union") made application to vary the Award, pursuant to section 17 of the Industrial Relations Act 1996 ("the Act").
The application named the other parties to the Award as the Director of Public Employment (Public Employment Office) ("the P.E.O.") and Unions New South Wales.
3 The matter was set down for Consent Hearing on 6 March 2007. The Union was represented by Ms R Small who also represented Unions New South Wales. The P.E.O. was represented by Mr R Spence.
4 Ms R Small spoke to the application which sought to expand the range of diplomas that are available for traineeships in the Public Service. Currently, the Award lists and specifies one only traineeship (Diploma Level Trainee - Information Technology). This application deletes the name of that traineeship and substitutes a generic term: "Diploma Level Trainee", and defines that term.
This application is in consequence of a greater industry requirement for diploma level traineeships.
5 Mr Spence advised that the P.E.O. consented to the application.
6 The Commission hereby confirms the ExTempore Determination made in this matter on 6 March 2007 and the Award is accordingly varied.
7 The variation to the Award will take effect from 6 March 2007.
A Macdonald
Commissioner
