Part 1 Preliminary

1.1 Name of Plan This Plan is Bombala Local Environmental Plan 2012.

1.1AA Commencement This Plan commences on the day on which it is published on the NSW legislation website.

1.2 Aims of Plan (1) This Plan aims to make local environmental planning provisions for land in Bombala in accordance with the relevant standard environmental planning instrument under section 3.20 of the Act. (2) The particular aims of this Plan are as follows— (aa) to protect and promote the use and development of land for arts and cultural activity, including music and other performance arts, (a) to protect prime crop and pasture land for agricultural use and to maintain and promote the contribution of commercial agriculture, forestry and mining to the local economy, (b) to provide a range of housing opportunities, including rural residential development, (c) to ensure that development occurs in a way that manages and minimises risks due to environmental hazards and minimises risks to important elements of the physical environment, (d) to support business and industry, and in particular to provide opportunities for the expansion of the tourism industry recognising its increasing contribution to the local economy, (e) to promote the development of industry while ensuring that such development is located and carried out in a way that minimises land use conflict, (f) to conserve and enhance environmental heritage, (g) to support the management of land having regard to the principles of sustainability and the potential effects of climate change, (h) to support and reinforce the existing settlements of Bombala, (i) to protect the natural environment and ensure that development is compatible with the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems.
