An Act to enable the Council of the Borough gewessssy JHURCH AND
of Neweastle to alter the levels, width, and. vssiciss Smsers direction of Churech-street and Perkins- street at and near their meeting or inter- section. [28rd November, 1887. ]
TIEREAS, in the Borough of Newcastle, Perkins-strect and Preamble,
Chureh-street intersect and meet cach other, and Perkins- street is of so steep a gradient that it is impossible to construct and form the said intersecting and intersected streets in such a manner that cach can be safely and conveniently used and enjoyed as public roads and strects, by foot-passengers upon the footpaths, and by passengers with or without horses, cattle, carriages, or other vehicles, upon the roadways or carriageways thereof. And whereas it is expedient and necessary for the convenience of the public using them that the said streets should be constructed and formed so that the safe and convenient use of each of them should be not entirely interrupted. And whereas the said streets can be constructed and formed so that they may be safely and conveniently used and enjoyed by the public as public roads and strects, over a part of their present, width, without wholly interrupting the safe and convenicnt use of

either of them, by slightly diverting the footpaths and roadways or carriageways of the said streets, and by lessening the width of each respectively at and near the intersecting or meeting portions thercof, and by altering the levels and directions of portions of the said streets. And whereas the Council of the said Borough cannot now lawfully divert the said footpaths and roadways or carriageways, or alter the levels thereof, in such a manner as would be necessary for the pur- poses aforesaid. Be it therefore enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :—
