Part 1 Preliminary
Division 1 Introduction
1 Short title This Act may be cited as the Pharmacy Business Ownership Act 2001.
2 Commencement This Act commences on a day to be fixed by proclamation.
Division 2 Operation of Act
3 Act binds all persons (1) This Act binds all persons, including the State. (2) Nothing in this Act makes the State liable to be prosecuted for an offence.

6 Application of Act This Act does not limit the application of the Medicines and Poisons Act 2019.

Division 3 Objects
8 Objects of Act (1) The objects of the Act are— (a) to promote the professional, safe and competent provision of pharmacy services; and (b) to maintain public confidence in the pharmacy profession. (2) The objects are to be achieved mainly by— (a) limiting who may own a pharmacy business; and (b) limiting the number of pharmacy businesses that may be owned by a person; and (c) providing for compliance with this Act to be monitored and enforced.
