The Parliament of Queensland enacts—
1__ Short title
This Act may be cited as the Parliament of Queensland (Change of
Political Status) Act 2003.
2 Act amended This Act amends the Parliament of Queensland Act 2001.
3 Amendment of s 72 (Vacating seats of members in particular circumstances)
(1) Section 72(1)(n)— renumber as section 72(1)(o). (2) Section 72(1)—
insert—
'(n) section 72A applies;'.
4 Insertion of new s 72A After section 72— insert—
'72A Vacating seats of members if change of political status '(1) A member's seat in the Assembly also becomes vacant if—
(a) for a member who was elected as the candidate of a political party—the member resigns as a member of the party or becomes a member of another political party; or
(b) for a member who was elected as an independent member—the member becomes a member of a political party.
'(2) For subsection (1)(a)—

(a) a member is taken to have been elected as the candidate of a political party if, when the member was last elected—
(i) the party's name or abbreviation was printed on the ballot paper adjacent to the candidate's name; or
(ii) the member was publicly recognised by the party as being an endorsed candidate of the party and publicly represented himself or herself to be an endorsed candidate of the party; and
