The Parliament of Queensland enacts—

1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the Local Government (Approved Pensioners Rate Subsidy) Amendment Act 2005.

2 Act amended This Act amends the Local Government Act 1993.

3 Insertion of new s 1035AA

Chapter 14, part 6, division 1—

insert—

*1035AAExtension of pensioner rate subsidy scheme to holder of leasehold interest in retirement village

'(1)_ This section applies if—

(d)

a person (the relevant pensioner) is the holder of a leasehold interest in an accommodation unit occupied by the relevant pensioner in a retirement village; and

under the retirement village scheme for the retirement village, the relevant pensioner is required to contribute a share (the relevant share) of a rate payable to a local government for the retirement village land for the retirement village; and

the relevant share relates to the relevant pensioner's leasehold interest in the accommodation unit; and

if the relevant pensioner were the holder of a freehold interest in the accommodation unit, the relevant pensioner would be entitled to a rate remission from the local government, for a rate payable by the relevant pensioner for the accommodation unit, under the operation of the following—
