The Parliament of Queensland enacts—

Part 1 Preliminary

1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the Coroners and Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Amendment Act 2007.

Part 2 Amendment of Coroners Act 2 Act amended in pt 2 This part amends the Coroners Act 2003.

3 Amendment of s 8 (Reportable death defined) Section 8(3)— insert—

'(da) the death happened within 30 days after the person underwent an elective health procedure; or'.

4 Insertion of new s 10B After section 10A— insert—

'10B_ Elective health procedures—notification about cause of death

'(1)_ This section applies if a person dies within 30 days after the person underwent an elective health procedure.

'(2) The doctor who was in charge of the health procedure must, as soon as practicable after the doctor becomes aware of the person's death, give a coroner a written notice stating the doctor's opinion as to the cause of the person's death.
