Short title
This Act may be cited as the Criminal Code (Assault Causing Death) Amendment Act 2007.
Code amended This Act amends the Criminal Code.
Insertion of new s 341 After section 340—
insert— Unlawful assault causing death
'(1)_ Any person who unlawfully assaults another causing the death of the other person is guilty of a crime, and is liable to imprisonment for 7 years.
'(2) The person is not excused from criminal responsibility for the death of the other person because the offender does not intend or foresee or can not reasonably foresee the death.'.
Replacement of s 544 (Accessories after the fact to crimes)
Section 544— omit, insert— Accessories after the fact to crimes
'Any person who becomes an accessory after the fact to a crime is guilty of a crime, and is liable, if no other punishment is provided, to the same punishment as if the person had committed the crime committed by the principal offender.'.
