Short title

This Act may be cited as the Local Government (Candidates for State Elections) Amendment Act 2007.

Act amended This Act amends the Local Government Act 1993.

Omission of s 224A (Councillor ceases to be councillor on becoming candidate for the Legislative Assembly)

Section 224A—

'299A Councillor must take leave to contest State election

'(1)_ This section applies to a councillor who, under the Electoral Act 1992, section 88(3), becomes a candidate for election as a member of the Legislative Assembly.

'(2) The councillor must take leave of absence for the period starting on the day the councillor becomes a candidate for the election and ending on the day the electoral commission is notified, under the Electoral Act 1992, section 122(1), of the candidate elected for the electoral district for which the councillor is a candidate.
