Chapter 1 Preliminary
1 Short title This Act may be cited as the Racing Integrity Act 2016 .
2 Commencement This Act commences on a day to be fixed by proclamation.
3 Main purposes of Act and their achievement (1) The main purposes of this Act are— (a) to maintain public confidence in the racing of animals in Queensland for which betting is lawful; and (b) to ensure the integrity of all persons involved with racing or betting under this Act or the Racing Act; and (c) to safeguard the welfare of all animals involved in racing under this Act or the Racing Act. (2) The purposes are to be achieved primarily by— (a) establishing the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission; and (b) regulating racing bookmakers by establishing a framework that provides for— (i) licensing by the commission; and (ii) the granting of offcourse approvals.
4 Extraterritorial application of Act (1) This Act applies both within and outside Queensland. (2) This Act applies outside Queensland to the full extent of the extraterritorial legislative power of the Parliament.
