Part 1 Preliminary
1 Short title This Act may be cited as the Mineral and Energy Resources and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2020.
2 Commencement This Act, other than the following provisions, commences on a day to be fixed by proclamation— (a) part 2, divisions 1 and 2; (b) parts 3 and 13; (c) part 4, heading and sections 29 and 33; (d) part 14; (e) part 17, heading and sections 209 and 210; (f) part 18.

Division 1 Preliminary
3 Act amended This part amends the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999. Note— See also the amendments in schedule 1.
Division 2 Amendments relating to statutory office holders
4 Amendment of s 54 (Appointment of site senior executive) (1) Section 54— insert— (4A) A coal mine operator for a coal mine or for a separate part of a surface mine must not appoint a person to be site senior executive for the coal mine or the separate part of the surface mine unless the person is an employee of the coal mine operator. Maximum penalty—500 penalty units. (2) Section 54(4A) and (5)— renumber as section 54(5) and (6).
