The Parliament of South Australia enacts as follows: Part 1—Preliminary 1—Short title This Act may be cited as the Relationships Register Act 2016. 3—Object The object of this Act is to provide for the legal recognition of persons in a relationship as a couple, irrespective of their sex or gender identity, by registration of the relationship. 4—Interpretation In this Act, unless the contrary intention appears— adult means a person of or above the age of 18 years; corresponding law means a law of another jurisdiction declared by the regulations to be a corresponding law under this Act; corresponding law registered relationship—see Part 4; Register means the Relationships Register established under Part 3; registered relationship means a relationship that is registered under this Act; Registrar means the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages within the meaning of the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1996.
