The Parliament of South Australia enacts as follows: Part 1—Preliminary 1—Short title This Act may be cited as the Education and Children's Services (Sports Vouchers) Amendment Act 2024. 2—Commencement This Act comes into operation on 1 January 2025.

Part 2—Amendment of Education and Children's Services Act 2019 3—Insertion of section 134A After section 134 insert: 134A—Sports vouchers (1) The Minister must ensure that a sports vouchers program continues to be offered to eligible students in each calendar year. (2) In this section— approved provider means an entity that provides a recognised sport, form of dance, learn to swim or scout/guides activities and who is approved in accordance with the prescribed approval requirements; eligible student means a student enrolled in any year level in a school in South Australia who meets the prescribed eligibility criteria; prescribed approval requirements means approval requirements equivalent to those that applied to providers under the sports voucher program that was being administered by the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing immediately before the relevant day; prescribed eligibility criteria means eligibility criteria equivalent to those that applied to children under the sports voucher program that was being administered by the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing immediately before the relevant day (other than any criteria requiring the child to be in a school year level of Reception to Year 9); relevant day means the day on which the Education and Children's Services (Sports Vouchers) Amendment Bill 2024 was introduced in the Legislative Council; sports vouchers program means a program under which eligible students are entitled to a voucher for an amount of not less than $200 to be redeemed as a discount on sport, dance, learn to swim or scouts/guides fees charged by 1 or more approved providers (provided that, if the voucher is redeemed with more than 1 approved provider, the total of the discounts obtained from all approved providers cannot exceed the voucher amount).
