The Parliament of South Australia enacts as follows: Part 1—Preliminary 1—Short title This Act may be cited as the Public Finance and Audit (Cash Payments) Amendment Act 2024.
Part 2—Amendment of Public Finance and Audit Act 1987 2—Insertion of section 41B After section 41A insert: 41B—Certain authorities to accept cash payments (1) A designated authority must accept payment of legal tender in the form of banknotes and coins for a transaction with an individual not exceeding $10 000 that is effected in the physical presence of the individual. Note— Section 16 of the Currency Act 1965 of the Commonwealth provides for requirements relating to payments made using coins. (2) In this section— designated authority means— (a) a public authority; or (b) a council.
